Join the abolitionist cause in the 19th century just as poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow did. Olde Colony Jubilee Dinner
Ocotber 8, 2009
Lombardo's, 6 Billings St, Randolph MA
Don't miss this opportunity to hear Professor Michael A. Burlingame, the May Buckley Sadowski '19 Professor Emeritus of History with Connecticut College from 1968 to 2001. He specializes in U.S. History, The Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, and Psychohistory and has devoted his scholarly energies to investigating the life and times of Lincoln, about whom he has published twelve books. In 2008, his most recent work, Abraham Lincoln: A Life (2 volumes) appeared and was spoken of highly by several of the speakers at the Harvard Lincoln Symposium. Doris Kearns Goodwin noted: "Lincoln scholars have waited anxiously for this book for decades. Its triumphant publication proves it was well worth the wait. Few scholars have written with greater insight about the psychology of Lincoln. No one in recent history has uncovered more fresh sources than Michael Burlingame. This profound and masterful portrait will be read and studied for years to come."
The Jubilee Dinner will be held at Lombardo's in Randolph at a cost of $30 per ticket. The usual raffle of Civil War related items (many provided by the Friends of Olde Colony listed in this newsletter) and exhibits of Civil War artifacts are to be expected. All tickets must be purchased no later than September 25. Ticket purchases can be made from Rich Campagna, 102 Pratt Ave., Dedham, MA 02026.
If your organization is planning a program or event in celebration of the Lincoln Bicentennial, you can submit it for endorsement by the Massachusetts Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
